Lambert & Fils
Canada

2016
Lighting design enthusiasts visiting this Montreal production company’s head office could see several sights for sore eyes. Above employees’ workstations there is a flock of Clark Suspension lights. The bent, powder-coated metal shades—appearing like falling leaves of paper—hide the light source and reflect a downward wash of light. In the break room, several lights from the Laurent Collection further enliven this space centred around a ping pong table. In fact, seen as a whole the custom chandelier is a kinetic piece of opaline globes that seem to trace the erratic path of a bouncing ping pong ball.

The boxed booth looked like a sparse, cavernous and monochromatic gallery. The exterior walls supported the Laurent Collection, while the interior revealed unique models specially designed for the event—pieces that danced into the sculptural world, beyond the usual functional aspect of a decorative fixture. In another section of the interior space the Mile Collection was first revealed. The caper worked and the museum-like space helped elevate the lighting fixtures to a level of admiration usually reserved for priceless artefacts and invaluable pieces art.

2017
In 2017, during Paris Design Week, The Conran Shop’s French branch invited Lambert & Fils for their first exhibition in France. Taking over seven display windows, the result is a Laurent Collection juxtaposed with mirrored surfaces, for a storefront display of unusual depth and brilliance. RÉFLECTEUR was an installation that extended the scope of the retailer and lighting designer’s collaboration. It builds on the tension between what can be seen and what remains hidden as well as between the object itself and its reflection. On the evening of the exhibition cocktail party, visitors had to throw open the sheer curtains that veiled the installation in order to interact with the piece, both in the shop and on the sidewalk, imposing an interaction between the human and the object.
Lambert & Fils
